Barrington Vet Dr. Leah Litchfield, Medical Director, General Practice

Developing relationships with pets and their owners is one of the many wonderful things that Dr. Leah Litchfield loves about her job. She also enjoys being able to provide lifetime care to animals all the way from infancy to their golden years. Every day working at Barrington Animal Hospital is unique, and there is always a chance for Dr. Litchfield to make a difference in an animal's life. Dr. Litchfield specializes in soft-tissue surgery and internal medicine. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and has always had a passion for veterinary care.

Throughout her career, Dr. Litchfield has managed several large wounds that seemed like they would never heal. However, using her unique skills and experience, she has been able to see the wonders of veterinary medicine. An additional upside of her job is that she gets to know her patients very well and develops close bonds with them throughout their healing process.

Dr. Leah Litchfield went to high school at Homewood Flossmoor High after moving around Illinois throughout her life. She went on to earn an undergraduate degree in Biology in 2002, and then completed veterinary school in 2006 at the University of Illinois. She graduated with honors during her academic career. Dr. Litchfield always knew that she wanted to work in the medical field but knew she should pursue veterinary care after reading James Herriot's "Dog Stories". This made her realize that she could combine her love of animals with her desire to practice medicine.

Before joining our team in August of 2020, Dr. Litchfield worked at the Glensted Animal Hospital in Glenwood IL as a kennel assistant during high school. She was also a student worker at the university dairy farm during her undergraduate career. Growing up, Dr. Litchfield had a chocolate lab and a Siamese cat who were her absolute best friends. She currently has 3 chocolate labs named Maezee, Luna, and Percy and 2 cats named Dieter and Goldie.

In her free time, Dr. Litchfield loves to go hiking, binge watch Netflix, and go wine tasting. She also enjoys spending time with her spouse Jake, who is a Middle School Teacher, and their wonderful daughters Elena and Vivienne.
